Frequently Asked Questions

What is Arlington Masters?

Arlington Masters is a swim club for adults 18 or older who are interested in fitness through structured swimming workouts. We have 100+ registered members and our parent organization is United States Masters Swimming.

How do I know I can swim Masters?

We do not teach beginners how to swim; for learn-to-swim programs, please see: Arlington County Recreation classes. However, if you have basic skills and would like to improve your technique, we reserve one lane for stroke clinics every Monday & Wednesday practice.

How are practices structured?

Our practices are usually 3,000-5,000 yards in distance for 1 1/2 hr workouts. We have a fulltime coach who conducts free stroke improvement clinics in one lane every Monday & Wednesday night.

Where and when do you swim?

We offer regular evening practices at the new Washington - Lee pool, which is convenient to two Metro stops (Ballston-MU or Virginia Square-GMU) and has plenty of parking. Our current schedule can be found posted on our About page.

Do I have to swim in meets?

Only if you want to. While we have a small group of enthusiastic swimmers who go to meets, participation is strictly optional. However, Masters swim meets are a great way to get motivated and help set personal goals!

How much are workouts?

Current prices are posted on our About page. The first practice is a free trial and then "punch tickets" are used after that.

If I am visiting from out of town, can I drop in?

Sure, just show your USMS card and sign in as a "dropin". The fee is what Arlington County charges for a one time swim.

How do I join?

Great! See our Join the Team! page for more details.
